YALLFest Author Eliot Schrefer with bonobo monkey Oshwe (who unfortunately can not make it to YALLFest this year).
This is what happens when you take a very bright young bonobo, record him on video, and then play it back for him.
COMPLETELY TRANSFIXED.
When I visited the bonobos at the Lola ya Bonobo sanctuary in Congo to research Endangered, this guy, Oshwe, became my best pal. On my second to last day, I recorded him on camera and played it back. He immediately started licking the screen. I guess he was hoping for a kiss.
Looking forward to showing you more bonobos pics and vids at Yallfest very soon! (Seriously—I’m like a proud grandpa about these apes.)
